The SUPERFLEX SBS additive is an SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) thermoelastoplastic polymer designed for bituminous binders’ modification. Both mechanical and thermal properties (low and high temperature) are enhanced by using SUPERFLEX SBS. It is generally known that polymer additives based on SBS are the most compatible with a bitumen.
The Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) prepared with SUPERFLEX provides the required characteristics in terms of crack resistance and strength of asphalt concrete.
Use of SUPERFLEX SBS is recommended for heavy traffic conditions. It can be used for bitumen modification in both the wearing course and the lower layers.
SUPERFLEX SBS can be supplied in the form of pellets and powder. The powder form does not require the use of a polymer-modified bitumen plant; modification can be carried out using a standard bitumen tank equipped with propeller mixers.
STABILDOPE PH is a product specially developed for the stabilization of bitumen modified with SBS/SBR polymers. STABILDOPE PH contains crosslinking agents and reaction catalysts that facilitate the formation of strong chemical bonds between the polymer and bitumen. This cross-linking stabilizes the final mixture, ensuring effective interaction between the bitumen and the polymer while preventing delamination of the binder. In small dosages, the modifier peptizes agglomerations of asphaltenes in bitumen through acid neutralization and esterification reactions. This process causes the asphaltenes to become free, allowing the particles to be evenly distributed throughout the maltene fraction under the influence of thermal motion. As a result, polymers like SBS can create 3D elastic lattices at lower polymer concentrations.
